Welfare reform as governance reform: the prospects of a governmentality perspective
This chapter discusses welfare administration, beginning with the argument that welfare reform is governance reform. It notes that a coherent analytical framework is needed in order to supplement a critical understanding of the topic. The discussion then introduces the concept of a Foucaldian governmentality analytic, and demonstrates how it can be applied to welfare reform.
