The neighbourhood effect
The neighbourhood effect
This chapter evaluates the evidence for the existence of the so-called neighbourhood effect. It examines whether such effects can be considered independently rather than in causal combination with emergent outcomes, and considers the role of neighbourhoods in endowing status and self-esteem. The chapter also discusses green neighbourhoods and the evidence that has been gathering about the apparently substantial health benefits of greenery and nature in the residential environment.
Keywords: neighbourhood effect, causal combination, emergent outcomes, self-esteem, green neighbourhoods, health benefits
