Governance: the Police and Crime Commissioner and police accountability in context
Governance: the Police and Crime Commissioner and police accountability in context
Governance of the police is strongly politicised but the perceived need for such oversight has been determined by police corruption, ineptitude and over-zealousness in the past. The chapter places the role of the police and crime commissioner in the academic context of oversight of the police and relates this also to international considerations of accountability, as well as examining the private views of the PCCs themselves. Reference is made to public surveys and the implications of oversight are analysed.
