Women and alcohol

This chapter shows what is possible if the service provided is situated in a ‘space’ where women feel they can easily access it. Primary care is one such space. Also it illustrates that the approach of GPs and nurses in primary care can have a positive influence and outcome for patients who engage in alcohol treatment. It also shows that training from the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) can enable GPs to be more confident in treating their patients in this field. However, if supported by specialist drug and alcohol services, this can further enable women to utilise services effectively.
