Policy analysis at the Bank of Israel1
Policy analysis at the Bank of Israel1
The Governor of the Bank of Israel has been assigned the formal role of the economic advisor to the government. Thus, it does not limit the policy research and analysis which is undertaken at the Bank to monetary and macro-economic issues, but covers in its research a wide range of policy issues. This chapter will describe and discuss the policy analysis carried out at the research department of the Bank of Israel, starting with policy analysis performed to support the conduct of monetary policy within the framework of an Inflation Targeting regime; it will than move on to the analysis of fiscal policy and its dynamics, primarily from the perspective of fiscal aggregates, and it will also review the analysis of labor market, welfare, and social services provision.
