Some thoughts on the broader context: neighbourhoods and peers
Some thoughts on the broader context: neighbourhoods and peers
How do the broader social structures and environments shape the everyday life of young people? How are routines created and social behaviour organised? For example, young people spend a great deal of time in their neighbourhoods. This chapter reviews the evidence for neighbourhood effects, and also searches to see whether in fact we have any evidence that young people's neighbourhoods, or the way in which they experience their local neighbourhood, have changed over recent decades. We also take a brief look at gang culture and consumerism.
