This chapter looks to the future. Since this book is the first formal, scholarly application of Social Role Valorisation (SRV) to palliative care, other beginning moves in the crossover between SRV and palliative care are described. The future for palliative care cannot be endless repetition of variants of the institutional model. The home should become the centre of the systems of non-acute care. The challenges facing a deinstitutionalised palliative-care system are much more straightforward and simple than those that faced the intellectual disability-service system. Palliative care should begin the debate that was initiated some 40 years ago in the intellectual disability sector, where currently institutional models are dying but not yet dead.
