This chapter discusses political behaviour among young unemployed people within the framework of theories of welfare, citizenship, and trust. It notes that the argument for this discussion is based on four different explanatory perspectives often used within research on youth unemployment – statistical phenomenon, young people's life situation, welfare states, and risk agenda. The chapter examines what type of political channels young people use. It analyses whether young people trust the political system and the traditional political channels for exercising political influence.

Keywords:   youth unemployment, European welfare communities, citizenship, welfare states, life situation, risk agenda, political system, traditional political channels, statistical phenomenon
