This chapter summarises the key points that are considered relevant to an analysis of gender in relation to housing. It then comments on relationship breakdown, social landlords, and homelessness. This is followed by several insights into the specific area of re-housing women who have experienced domestic violence. The chapter reveals that the difficulties of women living with and leaving violent men reflect societal outlooks and a lack of autonomy which have changed only slowly.

Keywords:   gender, housing, relationship breakdown, social landlords, homelessness, domestic violence
