This chapter sets out the wider policy landscape associated with initiatives to empower Muslim women including the community cohesion agenda and debates on multiculturalism and multi-faithism. It contextualises current representations of Muslim women by drawing on historical and postcolonial antecedents as well as contemporary global parallels. It also discusses some of the methodological issues arising from the research on which the book is based.
