This introduction describes why this book is both necessary and timely and provides a summary of the chapters that follow. While some legal scholars have begun to look at the effect of multiraciality on laws dealing with racial discrimination, few social scientists have included policy implications in their research on this demographic group. It is time to offer more attention to understanding how existing race policies impact multiracials and how policies can be shaped to protect and assist this group of racial minorities. This book helps to fill a gap in this area of research on multiracial people in the United States.
