This chapter brings us back to the core questions that this book has addressed. It discusses the implications of the social changes identified and, in particular, the consequences of the 2007 crisis and its aftermath for what it means to be young in late modernity. This discussion suggests that we need to recognise not only the diverse ways that different groups are expected to be a citizen in this economic and political landscape of neoliberalism but also that the experience of citizenship for the young is shaped by class, gender and other inequalities. It is critical to remember that, within the field of practice, variations of experiences are strongly influenced by a young person’s social space and access to economic, cultural and social capital. We need to acknowledge that citizenship will and does have different meanings for different groups in these neoliberal times.
