Chapter 2 shows how gentrification is rising like a phoenix from the ashes of inner city ‘crisis’ in Athens. Gentrification dynamics in Athens are shown to operate at the micro-scale and enmesh in a complex way with urban fears about illegal immigrants, drug users, and the homeless.
