The introduction examines the use of status dogs as weapons in the murder, using a pitbull dog, of 16 yr old Seyi Ogunyemi in Lambeth in 2009. DNA from one dog was used to track and arrest the owner, a local gang member. This high profile case illustrates the use of certain dogs as weapons by violent street gangs. The issue of status dogs is introduced as a new issue for social policy and community safety. The introduction sets out the structure of the book.
